4 Week Throwing Course

£120.00

Looking to try something new or build on your throwing skills? Our cosy ceramic studio offers a fantastic 4-week throwing course! This course is perfect for beginners and those with some experience. We will cover the all the essential techniques of wheel throwing, and build from there. Over the 4 weeks we will show you different techniques and watch you grow, covering:

  • Clay Preparation: Learn the essential steps to prepare your clay for the wheel.

  • Centering: Master the skill of centering clay on the wheel, a crucial step for successful throwing.

  • Throwing Cylinders and Bowls: Create basic shapes and develop your throwing skills.

  • Trimming Pots: Discover how to trim your thrown pots to achieve a polished finish.

  • Handles: Learn how to create your handle for your mug.

We recommend that you wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a little muddy. If you have long hair, please bring something to tie it back with, also shorter nails are easier to throw with but not essential. All materials, tools and aprons are supplied.

Held weekly for 2.5 hours over 4 weeks.

Fancy a brew? We’ve got you covered with great tea and coffee facilities - and of course biscuits! There is also a delightful selection of handmade mugs to choose from (although picking the perfect mug might take longer than it takes for the kettle to boil).

We use stoneware clay and custom in-house glazes, to make each piece food and dishwasher safe. We first fire to 1000 degrees, after which a glaze of your choosing will be applied and fired to 1230 degrees.

4 week throwing courses are always kept small, with a maximum of 4 students per course. Suitable for beginners and those looking to refresh their skills. Please note that as a small independent studio, we have limited space and can only store fired pieces for up to 12 weeks. There is an additional charge of £5 per kg of clay for work you would like to be fired and glazed. Your finished pieces will be weighed before the first firing at £5 per kilogram and must be paid for at the end of the course. (An average mug/bowl weighs around 250gms-£1.25.) All will be glazed in your chosen in houses glaze. Most students in total over the 4 weeks will have an additional cost of £10-£15. This course is designed for adults to explore their creativity, we have a range of other workshops to facilitate children’s exploration with clay.
